A Road Trip Through Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is the largest city in northern Thailand. It was the first capital of the Kingdom of Siam, before independence to Thailand in 15 58. Its Old City (also known as Old Sukothai) area still preserves vestiges of Moorish walls and moat, from its early history as a religious and cultural center. It also has hundreds of spectacular, intricately carved statues, many displaying the city's unique craftsmanship. From the stunning, intricately detailed Royal Temple of Wat Phra Singh to the artistically carved Wat Mahathat, every visit to Chiang Mai can be an exciting, thought-provoking experience.

One of the most famous things to do in Chiang Mai, apart from exploring all of the fascinating landmarks and historic sites, is to take part in one of the many competitive eating and cooking classes that are offered there. Cookery classes, especially those that concentrate on northern Thai cuisine, are incredibly popular among tourists because the food, particularly the spicy coconut-based "ndai" food of northern Thailand, is exquisite and quite addictive. Some of the more famous street cooking classes include the one taught by Natsana, which can take participants to some amazing remote Buddhist monasteries in the mountains. A cooking class is usually held in the evening at either a restaurant or at one of the many trendy street food stalls in town.

An evening road trip is also a great way to explore the sights and sounds of Chiang Mai, especially the Night Bazaar, which is the best place to go shopping during the day. This open-air market is bustling with activity as vendors prepare fresh produce and other items for sales, such as handicrafts, jewelry, clothes, bamboo crafts, and much more. At night, however, this is also a place where you can enjoy some excellent music, live music, street food, and dancing. All in all, a road trip through Chiang Mai can be an extremely interesting and unforgettable experience for anyone who gets the opportunity to make it happen. Your stay in Chiang Mai can provide you with a great introduction to Thailand, and the exciting opportunities that lay ahead for you once you are back home.
