A HISTORICAL GOLDMINE

Situated in the Algoma District, Wawa is a township in the Canadian province of Ontario. It is right next to Wawa Lake. It was formerly called township of Michipicoten named after an adjacent river of the same name. This region was developed for fur trading originally. Later in the year 1906 after the discovery of iron ore and gold in the region it turned into an iron ore mining hub. Gold mining has been booming since the 20th century due to development of modern machinery. The township was officially renamed in the year 2007 for its well-known community of Wawa.
